oooo!
I have finally bitten the bullet and .....
.......
.........
Signed up for a cellphone service and bought a cell phone! ooooh!
It seems when you leave your child in daycare all day, they would like to be able to contact you. HOw annoying of them! So now I will have an electronic leash. I signed up with Virgin Mobile with their prepaid service since they were the highest rated for several years now for overall customer satisfaction, in Consumer Reports. And then I splurged and got a "preloved" (I love that term. "No, I am not a virgin, I am preloved") Samsung m510. Cuz all the less expensive ones, except the LG 160, were "out of stock"... and the LG 160 got 2.5 starts out of 10, and the Samsung m510 got 8.5 stars out of 10.
Dang, I am so naive. Who knew there were so many features on a wee cellphone. 2G memory? That is more than my desktop computer (sans external hard drive). Video camera, still camera, calculator, alarm clock, speakerphone, hands free dialing, dang. I am a bit overwhelmed. Really, I want something that will ring, transmit my voice and the one I am speaking to, and hang up again. That is it! Well, I can't bitch for $60! dang again!
And as I just plan to use it in case of dire emergency, either mine, or the daycare or babysitter, I just got the prepaid by the minute plan. No monthly fee. No contract. No internet service (ok, I can use it, but I pay à la carte) or texting (ok, again, by the carte)
Anyways, I got the most basic thing, haven't received the phone or activated it yet, but I feel positively decadent and like I have just been boosted from the iron age to the stainless steel age.
My first cell phone !
(ok ok, barring the Pandaphone I had in China during my adoption)
yay me!
I am such a responsible mom!
Welcome to the 20th century!!! J/K but you will see how addicting the whole cell phone thing can be:)

Man, who knew? I could have sent you my dad's cast-off cell phone, he just upgraded!
Yes, before you know it, you will need to upgrade to a regular monthly plan & all...
