Six Month Update Writeup and Beijing Olympics

Well, I got the writeup from the social worker last night for our six month evalution.

Apparently I have been consciencious in seeking out all necessary interventions for the kiddo and have provided him with a stable and nurturing environment so that he appears to be a normal content active toddler.

She even said great things about the signing, saying the results are quite remarkable.

All in all, it sounds like I am a fit parent, and he is a welladjusted kid.

Can't argue with that! Yay!

Just one more self-written evaluation to write when he has been here for one year and my obligations to China will be over. I am so relieved. I just spoke with a fosteradopt mama in the park who has had her daughter from something like 9 wks old. The little girl is now three, and she hasn't finalised the adoption yet... they are still in paperwork hell, though the parental rights have been severed. I keep feeling rather spoiled and like I beat the system or something to have adopted from China. And then there is Baggage over there... with one adopted, two possibly on their way, or not, another til majority, two more new ones with varying degrees of trauma. hats off to you all.

So, anyone hearing anything about the China/Tibet thing? I read in the paper tonight that someone said that the whole Tibet thing makes them so sick they cannot stand to hear chinese spoken. I think that is so sad. We don't all barf at English cuz of Bush's Iraq Invasion. It isn't the fault of the Chinese public, or the language, that the Chinese govt is horribly brutal. I am sure that there are many people who speak Chinese who hate what is happening in Tibet. This whole Olympics thing is a big mess. But I wish they would stop talking of boycotting the Olympics or ruining the Olympic Torch Relay... the whole point is to compete on the sports field and not fight between countries. What is the point if you are going to attack the olympics themselves? Isn't that like promoting fighting rather than promoting properly channelled competition?

Boycott buying official Olympics junk maybe... I think all the profits probably go to the Chinese govt... they certainly have a tight grasp on the stores selling the goods. Maybe even boycott products made in China. Or write to your polititians to put diplomatic pressure on Beijing. Write letters to the Chinese govt. Protest in the streets like you did with Bush's war (we had amazing turnouts against the Iraq War here in Montreal). But don't hassle the passing of the olympic torch by people who have looked forward to carrying the thing for years, a torch that symbolises cooperation and peace. Olympics that celebrate human endeavor and winning spirit, and not bombing and winning wars.

Anyways, maybe it makes me feel different to have a little chinese boy in my home... and maybe not. It is a really weird thing... relying on the goodwill of the Chinese govt to make one a mother, at the same time knowing that if the Chinese govt had different policies, maybe these kids would be with their own birth mothers. I bet that if Chinese had govt paid healthcare like we do in China, that my son would have been kept with his birth mom. Maybe not. Maybe she gave him up, not for his cleft, but because he was the result of incest, or a rape, or she was a teen or unwed or somesuch. But we know that most of the little girls are given up because of Govt policy.

It is a weird weird situation.

Anyways, value an ancient country and culture. Respect a people and language(s). Hate brute force, political bullying, murder and human rights abuses. And celebrate the athletes, of whatever stripe.

I know I'd want everyone to value and support the olympics whether my son competed for Canada or China.
